Dear All:
I want to provide updates regarding our possible response to the significant challenges arising from Hurricane Melissa, which has had a severe impact on both Jamaica and Haiti. Following a series of meetings hosted by the Jamaican community, two primary response platforms have emerged as capable of addressing the needs in Jamaica.
The Jamaican Organization of NJ (JONJ) possesses a broad network that is well-positioned for action, while the Caribbean Medical Mission (CMM) has recently returned from conducting a medical clinic in Jamaica and plans to utilize the connections established during that effort. Currently, the CMM has a single designated drop-off location in East Orange, New Jersey. While the JONJ has a more extensive network though online financial donations are encouraged.
I propose that we engage Fr. Vernal to coordinate our initiatives in South Jersey, while I take responsibility for the northern sector of the diocese. Together, we can effectively contribute to the recovery efforts following this crisis.
Blessings
Fr Andy
